KAMESH V'SNU NAIR REFLECTION

ROLE: SKEPTIC

Reflection on project

The second group project has been a whole new experience altogether for me and my group. It requires us to be able to propose a technology, which is not an easy thing to do. We needed to be able to find a technology that suited our understanding level, and be able to answer all the required questions based on many different subjects that we’ve learnt over the past semester. Although this is not a real world situation, we learnt a lot of the difficulties out there in order to implement a new technology, not only in the field but in the developing parts as well. It is not an easy thing but in my opinion, my group members and myself stuck together toe-to-toe and got through the project, and that’s what important in a group project, everyone putting their 100% and helping each other to achieve the goals out there.

Reflection for subjects

KRD – This subject was one of my favourite at the first half of the semester. The way it all connected from the first four chapters made me so intrigued to learn more, but eventually everyone got to hit a speed bump. It became  harder but I managed to cover it. The problems in this subject is that it’s important to know everything step by step to ensure you don’t forget anything, and to me that’s the biggest challenge so far. I don’t have much time to prepare for the finals but I’m going to be giving my best to score at least a B+ for this subject.

CPDIC – This subject was the least preferred subject for me at the first half of the semester. But now, I have managed to make it into a like-able subject. It is hard and very confusing, but it’s all basic understanding and if that basic understanding is obtained, it becomes very easy. I still have a lot to master in this subject, and many have said that control process is the least preferred field for chemical engineer’s profession, and I think I know why.  But that has only made me more enthusiastic about tackling this subject and being good at it.

PSLP –I said this at my first reflection, and I say it again. This subject is by far the most important subject for all engineering students, or even any students related to the field of technology. This subject teaches us all about how to anticipate future problems and tackle it. It teaches us the various methods available out there to prevent an accident, which is vital in saving our raw materials and our equipments.

Contribution for the group

In this project, my contributions was from the beginning. I pitched in an idea for selection of our technology. Although it was not picked, my group members listened to me pitch out my idea and when I heard someone come up with a better idea, everyone including me opted for that without hesitation. Then my contributions came at the part where we had to specify why we chose this particular technology. I also was in-charge of finishing the transfer function and its related sub questions with another group member. The operational hazards of the reactor(HAZOP) was also done by me, after analyzing certain websites and research papers.
